Michael Shannon, office coordinator

Michael Shannon, 51 of Ocean View, formerly of Wilmington, passed away suddenly Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at his home.
Michael was born in Wilmington, Dec. 16, 1961, son of the late John Thomas and Betty (Everett) Shannon.  He was a graduate of the University of Delaware with a bachelor of arts degree.  
Mike was currently employed as the office coordinator with ResortQuest in Bethany Beach with more than 12 years of service.  He enjoyed boating, sports fishing and woodworking.  He was also an enthusiastic Philadelphia Eagles and NASCAR fan.  Mike will always be remembered as a lover of dogs, a talented arborist and a loving brother and friend.  
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Colleen Smith.  He is survived by four sisters, Jeannie (Hank) Rickards of Georgetown, Jackie (John) Shannon-Gaunt of Redington Shores, Fla., Betsy Christian of Dagsboro and Cheryl (Robert) Markiewicz of Hockessin; a brother-in-law, Fred Smith of Wilmington; four nephews, Justin Markiewicz, Brian Christian, Brett and Dane Smith; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.  
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 20, at the Ocean View Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 38040 Muddy Neck Road, Ocean View, where friends and family may call after 1 p.m.  Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Mike’s name to the Delaware SPCA, 22918 DuPont Hwy., Georgetown, DE 19947.
