Jean Fasnacht, Funland founder

Jean Elizabeth (Walmer) Fasnacht, 84, of Hershey, Pa., passed peacefully Sunday evening, Aug. 11, 2013, surrounded by family at her summer home in Rehoboth Beach.

Jean was the daughter of the late Earl and Gladys (Christ) Walmer.

She is survived by her husband, Allen R. Fasnacht, of 64 years. She is also survived by daughter Gail and husband William Henschke; son Craig and wife Cynthia, and son Neil and wife Barbara; granddaughter Erin and husband Christopher Darr; great-granddaughters Emma and Abigail Darr; grandson Mark Henschke; and granddaughter Lauren Fasnacht.

Jean and Allen were two of the founders of Funland, an amusement park on the Boardwalk in Rehoboth Beach, in 1962. Jean was a graduate of Hershey High School, class of 1946, and  Hershey Junior College. She was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church of Hershey and its choirs. Jean’s faith and family were the most important things in her life. She was also a Girl Scout leader, an avid golfer, bridge player and Phillies fan.

Visitation will be  Monday, Aug. 19, 6 to 8 p.m., at Hoover Funeral Home in Hershey. A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, Aug. 20, at 11 a.m., at Hershey First United Methodist Church, 64 W. Chocolate Ave., with visitation one hour prior.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to her church’s stained glass window fund, or to the Hershey Food Bank, PO Box 205, Hershey, PA 17033.
