Cape volleyball beats Sussex Tech 3-0, improves to 9-2

The Cape volleyball team hosted Sussex Tech Oct. 10 in front of a large crowd in an evenly matched showdown against two winning teams trying to reach the top level in the Henlopen Conference.

Cape outlasted Tech 25-22 in the crucial first game then went on to win game two 25-16 and the deciding game three 25-19.

Cape improved to 9-2 on the season while the Ravens fell to 7-4.

The Ravens have lost in the Henlopen Conference to Caesar Rodney 3-0 and Smyrna 3-0 while Cape has lost conference games to Smyrna 3-0 and Polytech 3-0.

Cape’s Megan Hart with quick ups at the net led the Vikings with 6 kills and 9 blocks and was joined on a tall line at the net by Megan Grahne with 5 kills and Sarah Tappan and Cameron Wick with 2 kills each.

Alison Palmer led the team with 11 assists while the back of the defense “can you dig it” hard work was handled by Kristin Perkinson with 14 and Mallory McDonald with 12.

Highlights for the Sussex Tech side included 17 assists from Alayna Villa and 6 blocks each from Logan Troyer and Nanas Burt. Breanna Perry had 5 blocks.

Cape plays at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 15, at Indian River, then hosts Sussex Central at 5 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 17.
