Martha Beckett Gray, positive motivator

Martha A. Beckett Gray, 72, was born June 4, 1941, to the late Thomas H. and Beatrice B. Beckett. She departed this life Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, at her home surrounded by her family. She was raised in Nassawadox, Va., and received her education from the Northampton County School District.

Martha worked all her life up until her illness. She enjoyed being with her family, loved reading the Bible, and praising the Lord. She was a positive motivator with a loving heart. Martha attended the Community Church of the Lord Jesus Christ in Seaford under the leadership of Pastor Elder Peter Davis and Assistant Pastor Elder Thornton Pitts.

In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her son, Alaska Andrew Beckett; three sisters, Virginia Beckett, Josephine Upshur and Mary E. Cropper; and two brothers, Thomas Beckett and Paul Beckett.

She leaves to cherish her memories her husband Bartola Gray; her children, Alfred (Janice) Beckett of Milton,  Bartola (Rodise) Beckett of Georgetown, Lizzie (Oliver) West of Milton, Timothy (Lisa) Gray Sr. of Dover, Frances Gray of Milton, Tyrone Gray of Milton, Walter (Ellen) Gray of Milton, and Daniel (Cynthia) Gray of Seaford; grandchildren, Amanda West, Oliver West Jr., Andreal N. Beckett, Jamar Beckett, Shaunette Trower, Darlene Beckett, Trevon Pressley, Danielle Gray, Timothy Gray Jr., Olivia Gray, Shaquean Gray, Dashaun Gray, Daniel Gray Jr., Darnesha Gray, Quisean Petit and Troyshawn Petit; two sisters, Shirley (Victor) Paynter of Rehoboth, and Magdalene Cox of Milton; and a host of great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins and friends.

Services will be Saturday, Jan. 25, at 11 a.m. at Friendship Baptist Church, 500 W. 4th St., Lewes, where friends may call one hour prior.
