Dorothy M. Ellis, retired cafeteria baker

Dorothy M. Ellis, 95, formerly of Laurel, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, in Salisbury, Md.

Dorothy was born in Amite, La., a daughter of the late William F. Monroe and Odie (Lee) Monroe. Dorothy retired from the Laurel School District were she was a baker in the cafeteria. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother whom enjoyed crocheting, gardening and loved to cook.

Mrs. Ellis is survived by her daughters, Nancy Geiger (Eugene) of Millsboro and Janice Geiger (Fritz) of Millsboro; stepchildren, Charles Robert Ellis (Marty) of Laurel and Marsha Chubb (Bill) of Laurel; a sister, Lillian Jacques of Knoxville, Tenn.; thirteen grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a brother, Douglas Monroe; her first husband, Martin H. Mitchell in 1966; and second husband Robert Ellis in 2001.

A Celebration of her life will be held at the Laurel Nazarene Church, 94 Walnut St., Laurel,  Thursday, Jan. 30, at 2 p.m., were a visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service. The Pastor Ralph Fraser will officiate.
