Gerald 'Jerry' Downes, Eight Ball champ

Gerald "Jerry" T. Downes, 59, of Georgetown passed away Sunday April 27, 2014, at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford.

Jerry grew up in Georgetown and was previously a shipping foreman for King Cole. He played Little League and graduated from Sussex Central High School in 1973. He was an avid hunter, enjoyed watching NASCAR and going to stock car races, and loved to shoot pool and was also a member of a few leagues. Jerry was a 2005 Delaware Eight Ball Champion for the team The Wild Bunch. The team traveled to Las Vegas, Nev. in August 2005 and represented Delaware. He also raised rabbit dogs and hunted them. Jerry was very fond of his nephews and niece.

Jerry was preceded in death by his father Clifford T. Downes.

He is survived by his mother, Louise Conaway and her husband Russell; two brothers, Terry Downes and wife Holly, and Timmy Conaway and wife Beth; a sister, Kelly Conaway and fiancé Tracy Tyndall; his nephews Clay and Chris Conaway; and niece Raelyn Downes.

A funeral service will be held Sunday May 4, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Short Funeral Services 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, where friends may call after noon. Interment will be in Union Cemetery.
