Two Sussex Technical High School juniors brought home top honors in the 2014 Delaware Dairy Princess contest recently held at the Delaware Agricultural Museum in Dover. Hayley Bender captured the crown, and classmate Holly Anderson will be her alternate.
Both Bender and Anderson are 4-H members and show cattle. Bender enjoys showing Brown Swiss cows and Anderson prefers the Holstein breed. They are both studying athletic health care-physical therapy at Sussex Tech.
The Delaware Dairy Princess will support the dairy industry by making personal appearances to promote dairy products and be the industry’s official state representative at meetings, conventions, and promotional activities. She will also be available for activities at the Delaware State Fair.
The new princess received a $1,000 award for her win, and the alternate was awarded $300. Contestants were judged on four components: interview, impromptu question, self-introduction in front of the audience, and a three-minute dairy-related skit.
