Cape May Lewes Ferry Announces 50th Anniversary Fares - 50% off Foot Passenger Fares; Special $50 Round Trip Vehicle Rate
(Cape May, NJ) Today, Cape May – Lewes Ferry (CMLF) officials announced that special vehicle and passenger fares will be offered to coincide with the Cape May – Lewes Ferry’s 50th Anniversary weekend celebration. Available from Friday, June 27 through Monday, June 30 only, Ferry customers can travel across the Delaware Bay at a fraction of published rates. Foot passenger tickets are available at a 50% off while a special round trip vehicle fare, including all its occupants, can be purchased for $50.
According to Heath Gehrke, Director of Operations for the Cape May – Lewes Ferry, the special fares are a way to engage our customers and stakeholders to celebrate the Ferry’s longevity. “Without our customers and community support on both sides of the Delaware Bay, the Cape May – Lewes Ferry would not be in a position to celebrate fifty years of continuous service,” Gehrke said. “We wanted to offer that extra special value fare to our customers during our celebration weekend that says, ‘thank you!’”
To receive the special Anniversary fares, customers should mention the promo code “50th” when making their reservation by calling 800-64-Ferry. The limited time, special anniversary fares are valid from June 27-June 30, 2014.
Gehrke also noted that the excitement is building for the 50th Anniversary. “We’ve had tremendous response for a legacy brick program and we’re gearing up for a great weekend celebration. We can’t wait to celebrate our history and honor the communities we serve.”
On Saturday June 28, and Sunday June 29, the Cape May- Lewes Ferry terminals will host festivals to celebrate the service’s highly anticipated 50th Anniversary. The celebration weekend will include live entertainment, carnival games, children’s activities and an outdoor screening of the WHYY documentary on the Cape May – Lewes Ferry. A dedication ceremony – including a buried time capsule and unveiling of the legacy brick patios at both terminals – will commemorate the Ferry’s 50th Anniversary. The Cape May festival will take place on June 28 while the Lewes celebration is set for the following day.

The Cape May – Lewes Ferry, which is operated by the Delaware River and Bay Authority and serves the Twin Capes region of Cape May, NJ and Lewes, DE, began operations on July 1, 1964. On that historic date, the first ferry vessel departed the Lewes terminal at 6:47 a.m., carrying eight vehicles and fifteen passengers. Over the years, the Ferry has transported more than 43 million people and 14 million vehicles across the Delaware Bay.
