Robert J. Tracy, Roman Catholic deacon

Deacon Robert J. Tracy, 77, of Warminster, Pa., formerly of Ocean View, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, Aug. 11, 2014.

He was born in Waterbury, Conn. Feb. 2, 1937, son of the late William V. and Stephanie (Sliz) Tracy.

Bob grew up in Landover Hills, Md., attended Gonzaga High School and Catholic University. He served in the Air Force as a second lieutenant for four years. As a 32-year resident of Bowie, Md., he began his service as a Roman Catholic deacon. He had a lengthy career as an aeronautical engineer, working for both NAVAir and private industry. He retired to South Bethany Beach, where he continued his diaconal ministries.

He loved sports - both playing and watching his kids and grandkids. One of his favorite pastimes was spending time on the beach, riding the waves. He had a great sense of humor - laughing often and making others laugh as well. His work as a deacon extended to assisting those in prison and the poor.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Anne d'Auray (Rooney) Tracy; daughters Jackie Dougherty and Betsy Keller; sons Bob, Brian, and Matt; and 13 grandchildren. Surviving siblings are Mary Carter, Patty Haley, Betsy Pfister, and John Tracy. He is pre-deceased by a sister, Edith.

A viewing will be held from 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 17, at the Ocean View Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 38040 Muddy Neck Road. Funeral Mass will be held Monday, Aug. 18, at 11 a.m., at St. Ann's 691 Garfield Pkwy., Bethany Beach. Burial will follow at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Dagsboro.
