Events This Weekend in Delaware and Maryland

October 5, 2022

Well, there's not much we can say about last weekend other than it was pretty much a complete washout thanks to the remnants of Hurricane Ian that were felt in our area over the course of several days.

Many of the fall's biggest and best festivals fell victim to Mother Nature last week, but we hope to see them all back and better than ever in 2023.

Moving on to this week, we have another large slate of events and festivals to tell you about as the 2022 Fall Festival Season rolls on at and near the Delaware and Maryland beaches.

Here's hoping for better weather this weekend for all of our scheduled events.

Here are our top pics for events and festivals during the October 7-9 weekend in the coastal region and beyond.

Delmarva Folk Festival (October 7-8)

This two-day event in Clayton features both regionally and nationally renowned artists and is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, October 7-8, at the G & R Recreation Area and Campground.

A number of headline acts will be performing during the two days of the event, which also features retail and food vendors, music workshops, a craft beer tent, an "after-hours bonfire jam" and opportunities for on-site camping.

The event is organized by the Delaware Friends of Folk in an effort to support folk music and folk musicians in the mid-Atlantic.

A few of the featured performers for 2022 include Zydeco Jed, Shafaat Khan, Wicked Sycamore, Bryan & The Barn Owls and Isabel Angela.

Greyhounds Reach the Beach (October 7-9)

Its' time once again for dozens of sleek greyhounds and their owners to invade Rehoboth Beach for a weekend of fun and games on and near the sandy shores of the Atlantic Ocean.

Held in the area since 1995, Greyhounds Reach the Beach is an annual charity event that supports designated greyhound adoption groups.

Event central is the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center but different gatherings and happenings will be occurring throughout the resort, culminating with a parade on the Boardwalk on Sunday morning, October 9.

Other scheduled activities include a silent auction, a raffle, a "Beer and Biscuit Mixer," a bonfire on the beach, a "Blessing of the Hounds," boat cruises and more.

Boardwalk Buddy Walk (October 8)

This annual walk on the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk raises money for Down Syndrome research and is planned for Saturday, October 9 in the "Nation's Summer Capital."

The walk begins at 9 a.m., and will kick off at the bandstand near the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk.

If you would like to participate either by walking or by making a donation, or both, please visit de-stride.org.
