Historic Lewes Speaker Series—Heroic Early Dutch Efforts to Colonize Delaware
Join historian Katherine Henn for a fascinating look at the Dutch West India Company’s attempts to establish a permanent presence in Delaware. The talk will spotlight Kiliaen van Rensselaer, the visionary director who, more than any other individual, championed colonization in New Netherland—today’s New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Delaware. While many others pursued profits through the fur trade, van Rensselaer stood out as the only Dutch promoter to successfully support long-term settlement. The event will take place at the Rollins Center, 101 Adams Ave., $5 suggested donation.
