Lewes 250 Thanks to our Supporters

January 13, 2026

There is magic in Lewes. Two recent events — Congressman Raskin’s interview at the High School and the New Year’s Day bell-ringing and concert at St. Peter's Church — show what can happen when people of goodwill come together to better our community.  Lewes 250, a non-profit group dedicated to commemorating our Nation’s independence, hosted both events.

As chair of Lewes 250, I am writing to express our sincere appreciation to those who helped make our inaugural events so successful.  Thanks go out to the good souls at St. Peter's Church, their handbell choir (with added guests), and the SODELO brass quintet for lifting our hearts with music as we began the celebration of this very special New Year.

The success of the Raskin event would have been impossible without Ron Collins, who envisioned this night with Thomas Paine and the Congressman. But it was the efforts of the remarkable folks at the Lewes Public Library and those at Cape Henlopen High School who oversee venue arrangements that made it happen. The Lewes Police Department and the Delaware State Police were so professional and helpful in keeping us all safe. Lewes' Mayor Amy Marasco, Congresswoman Sarah McBride, and State Senator Russ Huxtable, and their staffs all pitched in to ensure community engagement.  Thanks also to Browseabout Books, one of our sponsors, for their help in making commemorative books available.  And finally, no thank-you would be complete without acknowledging the Greater Lewes Foundation and the tireless efforts of the Lewes 250 committee.

In the days and months ahead, Lewes 250 will host a wide variety of celebratory programs.  (Follow us on Lewes250.com to be in the know about upcoming events.)  One event of note is a February 26th Library event with noted country singer and songwriter Bobby Tomberlin, who will perform patriotic songs. Until then, thanks again to all of those in our community who give so much to help make Lewes so special.  Let’s continue to make history!
