New Year’s Eve Events in Delaware and Maryland

December 28, 2022

With Christmas now in the rear view mirror, it's time for donning our party hats and preparing to welcome 2023 in a fun and festive way!

And there's certainly no shortage of ways to do that at and near the Delaware and Maryland beaches.

Now we're going to say right off the bat that it's simply impossible for us to preview every New Year's Eve party that's happening in the region. Let's just say that if you want to get out and celebrate this weekend, you're certainly going to have a lot of options.

But what we can do is give you a few choices for ringing in the new year in style, whether you're a young adult, a not so young adult or a family with children.

We're going to touch on options in each of these categories in our annual New Year's Eve preview blog here on theoldfathergroup.com.

If you want an all-out party on New Year's Eve, some of the best options include the Rusty Rudder in Dewey Beach and Seacrets in Ocean City. Check them out if you want to get wild and crazy to celebrate the arrival of 2023.

But we're going to focus on around 20 of the best family or at least a little more low-key celebrations in the region.

So pick your favorite, pop on your party hats, put the champagne on ice and let's say goodbye to 2022 and welcome 2023 in a fun and memorable way.

Let's take a look at a few great options for doing just that...

Lightship Overfalls Anchor Drop

If you're searching for a fun family event this New Year's Eve, head on down to the Lightship Overfalls in the Lewes Harbor.

The lit-up anchor will be dropping at midnight with the party running from 11:45 p.m., until around 1 a.m.

This is a free event but donations to help with the preservation of the historic lightship are always appreciated.

Dewey Beach Ball Drop

Gather between New Orleans Street and Route 1 to watch the ball drop this year in Dewey Beach.

In what has become a coastal Delaware tradition, the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company will drop the “ball,” which actually more closely resembles a skim boarder, in the middle of New Orleans Street at midnight.

Prior to the ball drop, party favors and hot chocolate will be available.

This is a free event that begins at 11:30 p.m. Click here for more information.

New Year's Eve at Dicken's Parlour Theatre

Whether you're a family with small children or a couple looking to have a great time together on New Year's Eve, Dicken's Parlour Theatre in Ocean View has you covered this year.

The theatre will be holding a traditional New Year's Eve party in the evening. But owners Rich and Sue Bloch are also holding what they call a "New Year's Early" event at 2:00 in the afternoon.

Perfect for families with young children, this event allows the kids to celebrate the arrival of the new year while still being in bed long before midnight.

The "New Year's Early" event features "a special round of magic, mirth and munchies" at the theatre, which is located on Good Earth Lane in Ocean View.

The 2 p.m., event is $35 for adults and $28 for children. The traditional New Year's Eve party, scheduled to begin with dinner at 7 p.m., and a show at 9 p.m., is $140 per person.

The evening show features a performance by America's Got Talent finalist Derek Hughes.
