Nurses can now register for the Delaware Organization of Nurse Leaders (DONL) Fourth Annual Leadership Summit, which is scheduled on Thursday, Sept. 13 at Dover Downs Hotel. This year’s theme is “Harness Your Leadership Energy.”
Bayhealth Birth Center and Women’s Services Senior Nurse Manager Starr Lynch, BSN, RNC-OB, serves as the chair for this year’s summit. She believes this program has a lot to offer nurse leaders across the spectrum from charge nurses to senior executives. “We have guest speakers from a variety of nursing modalities including hospitals, nursing schools, long-term care facilities, hospice, and substance abuse facilities,” Lynch said. “And we’ve chosen topics that are hard to address but vital to improve the work environment and patient care.” Leaders from other disciplines are also welcome to attend.
The keynote speaker is Dr. Paul Thomas Clements, who is the clinical professor and coordinator of the Forensic Trends in Healthcare Certificate Program online at Drexel University. He is a forensic psychiatric clinical specialist who is also a certified gang specialist and certified in danger assessment.
Summit topics include promoting positive changes in the workplace, managing workplace bullying, preventing workplace violence, transitions to practice with new nurses, and successful leadership. There will also be vendors available talking about de-escalation, nutrition and self-care. “These individuals will talk to nurses about the importance of a balanced work life and improving our health,” Lynch said.
The deadline to register is Friday, Aug. 31. The summit registration fee is $115 and 6.33 nursing contact hours are offered. The program is jointly provided between DONL and Bayhealth. Visit DelawareONE.org to register for this conference.
