Several Virtual Events and Annual Favorites are Scheduled This Week in Delaware’s Coastal Region

November 11, 2020

Continuing with a theme in recent weeks and months, we have plenty of great annual events and happenings to tell you about this week in our latest “Weekender Blog,” brought to you every Wednesday by the real estate professionals at the Oldfather Group of Ocean Atlantic Sotheby’s International Realty.

But in keeping with that same theme, most of these events are being held either virtually or in a scaled down format from previous years.

This year has certainly presented an abundance of challenges for all of us here in the coastal region, and really around the country and the world, so we’re just ecstatic that some of these events are even with us at all for 2020. It’s certainly making the best of a bad situation.

Let’s tell you about a few of the events we’re featuring for this week, in towns and municipalities all throughout the coastal region.

We’ll begin in Dewey Beach and move on from there:

Doodles in Dewey Beach (November 14). Doodles in Dewey has been going on for a decade-and-a-half at Delaware’s most dog-friendly beach and organizers aren’t going to let current health restrictions rain on their parade.

Okay, maybe a little bit as this will be a virtual event for 2020. But it will continue on in a “making the best of a bad situation” scenario, on Saturday, November 14, from 10 until 11:30 a.m.

This year’s Doodles event benefits programs at Food & Friends, with virtual activities that include tips on holistic care, grooming, nutrition and much more, in addition to a fun costume contest for all participating canines.

Conclusion of Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival (November 13-15). The 2020 Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival concludes this weekend with three final days of great independent films shown both online and at the Cinema Art Theater in Lewes.

This is the 23rd year for the popular local festival, which always features a variety of American and international films, in addition to popular and engaging documentaries.

Passes won’t be needed this year, as all films are available to anyone who would like to view them. Keep in mind, however, that films at the Cinema Art Theater will be shown with limited capacity, due to state mandated health restrictions.

MERR Virtual “Finraiser” (November 14). This year’s “Finraiser” in support of the Marine Education, Research and Rehabilitation (MERR) Institute will also be held in a virtual format, from 5 to 7 p.m., on Saturday, November 14.

Virtual events will include a silent auction, a raffle, entertainment, the presentation of MERR Standings for 2020 and much more.

General admission is free but donations are accepted. VIP tickets are available for $60 and include a basket of MERR collectibles, champagne and confections for two people.

All proceeds from this virtual 2020 event benefit the Marine Mammal and Sea Turtle Rescue program.
