‘King Lear’ at Cinema Art Theater Oct. 20-23

Part of the National Theatre Live series
October 18, 2018

Broadcast live from London’s West End, plan to see Ian McKellen’s extraordinarily moving portrayal of “King Lear” in cinemas.

Chichester Festival Theatre’s production received five-star reviews for its sell-out run, and transfers to the West End for a limited season. Jonathan Munby directs this contemporary retelling of Shakespeare’s tender, violent, moving and shocking play.

Considered by many to be the greatest tragedy ever written, “King Lear” sees two aging fathers - one a king, one his courtier - reject the children who truly love them.  Their blindness unleashes a tornado of pitiless ambition and treachery, as family and state are plunged into a violent power struggle with bitter ends.

National Theatre Live is a groundbreaking project that presents the best of British theater live from the London stage on film to cinemas across the UK and around the world.

Screenings will be 12:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 20; 12:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 22; and 6 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 23, at the Cinema Art Theater, 17701 Dartmouth Drive in Dartmouth Plaza (behind the Lewes Wawa). Admission for National Theatre Live is $18 for RBFS members, $20 general admission and $15 for ages 16 and under. Customers are encouraged to purchase tickets online. If seats are available, tickets can be purchased at the theater, 30 minutes before the screening.
