‘Religion in Art’ series explores biblical prophets each week
“Religion in Art: The Prophets,” a four-week lecture/discussion series, continues from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 18 and Wednesday, March 25, at Groome Church, 601 Savannah Road, Lewes.
Participants explore and discuss how artists have depicted and interpreted six of the prophets: Daniel, Elijah, Elisha, Ezekiel, Isaiah and Jeremiah.
The series covers a variety of artists from different historical periods, including works by Michelangelo, Raphael and American painter Benjamin West.
Each session, free and open to the public, consists of a lecture, discussion, and question-and-answer period. It also includes a complimentary soup and sandwich lunch.
“The Religion in Art series is one of my favorite activities during the year; it's popular and always well attended,” said the Rev. Dr. S. Willard Crossan III, Groome pastor. “The Prophets is our fourth series; we began with Christ’s Journey to the Cross, followed by Women in the Bible, and The Evangelists. With each series I continue to be encouraged and impressed by the caliber of questions asked, and depth of knowledge and understanding the sessions engender.”
