76ers miss out on big opportunity

May 12, 2023

On Thursday, the 76ers had a great opportunity to close out the defending Eastern Conference champion Boston Celtics on their home floor in Game 6. For some reason, their offensive skills did not show up in this game at all! The final score was 95-86. In the fourth quarter, the Sixers only scored 13 points. Jayson Tatum of the Celtics scored 16 points in the quarter by himself.

Joel Embiid looked like his injury was still affecting him in terms of his running up and down the court. I hope he performs better in Game 7 on Sunday or it's pretty much a done deal. I think the first team to score 120 points in Game 7 will win. The outcome of this game will probably have a big effect on the 76ers’ future for next season. I hope they can continue their strong play on the road for one more game at least.

The Phillies continue to be inconsistent. They just won two games against the Toronto Blue Jays who are supposed to be a good team in the American League East. In order to try to catch up with the Atlanta Braves, they have to go on a long winning streak since the Braves have a seven-game lead over them in the standings. I think it is going be a long battle with the New York Mets for second place in the division. If we finish in second place, that will most likely give us a playoff spot, but that is a long way off.

I am looking forward to Ranger Suárez coming back in the pitching rotation to help support Zack Wheeler and Aaron Nola. Nick Castellanos is having a great start to the season. I hope this continues. For the next week, the Phillies are playing on the west coast against the Colorado Rockies and San Francisco Giants.

The NFL schedule came out this week. The Eagles were given a difficult schedule since they made the Super Bowl last year. Their first game is against the New England Patriots when Tom Brady will be honored for his career. We also have to play the NFC West division, which is challenging, except for the Arizona Cardinals. The Birds also play Kansas City Nov. 20 in a Super Bowl rematch. I think our division is going to be more challenging this year because the New York Giants are going to be better than they were last year, and you never know about the Cowboys. For now, I will be focusing on the 76ers getting this much-needed win and hoping that the Phillies can step up their efforts and make the baseball season worth watching.

Everyone enjoy their Mother’s Day and go 76ers and Cape sports.
