99 Sea Level in Bethany opens for Phase 1

June 5, 2020

Phase 1 of the reopening process in Delaware has begun and 99 Sea Level in Bethany Beach is opening with a focus on welcoming back customers in the safest way. Paul Hajewski, executive chef for 99 Sea Level, explains, “We want people to feel welcome, but we are also taking steps to make sure everyone is safe. For us, this means going above and beyond the standards set by the state.”

To these ends, all the staff has undergone comprehensive training about COVID-19 sanitization and cleaning procedures. Staff will be wearing masks at all times, and diners are also required to wear masks while moving about the restaurant. Once seated at their tables, customers are allowed to remove their masks.

Hajewski feels it is important to start slowly to give their staff time to adjust to the new protocols because they know that it’s important to get it right. Dine-in will be from 4 to 9 p.m. They anticipate moving to noon to 9 p.m. dine-in service, as the staff acclimates to the new rules, and eventually to noon to 10 p.m. (regular hours). A reservation will be required to eat in the dining room, which can be filled to 30 percent capacity.

Walk-up reservations are permitted only if capacity hasn’t been reached, and waiting is not allowed on premises.  There are no limits on the outdoor capacity, and 99 Sea Level has beautiful outdoor seating near the ocean. All outdoor tables have been spread out to give at least six feet between one another.

The bar remains closed during Phase 1, but alcoholic beverages can be carried out with a food purchase. Carryout will still be available all day. And, of course, they have curbside pick up, delivery, and the new Dine n’ Dash menu which features small bites that are readily available for pickup on the boards.

As for their menu, they will be starting with a brand-new, all-day menu Hajewski has worked hard on, that includes sandwiches, pasta, entrees, sous vide steaks, homemade desserts and raw bar selections. Nightly dinner and drink specials will be available as well.

“While things may be a bit different this season,” Hajewski concludes, “we are going to continue working hard to bring an elevated dining experience and amazing, seasonal cuisine to our community.”  The entire staff at 99 Sea Level wants to extend their gratitude to the community for its support thus far, and they can’t wait to see everyone at the beach as things slowly come back to normal.
