AARP Chapter 5340 to meet March 6
The American Association of Retired Persons Chapter 5340 has resumed meeting monthly, and members have undertaken the collection of personal items for the Springboard Pallet Village in support of housing the homeless in Georgetown. The chapter will continue collecting items each month.
Todd Lawson, Sussex County administrator, will speak at the meeting set for 11 a.m., Monday, March 6, at Pizza King in Millsboro. Each attendee can order from the menu and pay individually. Meetings will continue April 3, May 1 and June 5, with no summer dates.
The chapter is actively looking for new members to join this spirited group in both community service and monthly meeting attendance. Every meeting features a speaker addressing a topic that is relevant to seniors living in the middle areas of Sussex County, including Georgetown and surrounding communities.
There are no chapter dues; one just has to be a member of AARP nationally.
AARP Georgetown typically hosts a featured speaker dealing with local topics such as helping others and providing information for individuals regarding health, scams and other issues pertinent to staying safe within the community. Retired employees continue their service in many roles including supporting reading for children, raising funds for a local food pantry, combating homelessness and volunteering to help neighbors in need.
