AARP Georgetown announces scholarship winners, sets Nov. 2 meeting
The AARP Georgetown Chapter 5340 announced its annual scholarship winners. At the June 1 meeting, the members heard from Stephanie Foresman, a graduate of Sussex Tech with a 3.8 GPA. She was a member of the National Honor Society and the National Technical Honor Society. She also belonged to FFA, Delaware Envirothon and was a People to People ambassador. She was involved in sports and is an active volunteer. She will be attending University of North Carolina at Charlotte where she will study to become an atmospheric scientist.
The second winner was unable to attend the meeting. Ashley Jean-Baptiste graduated from Sussex Central High School with a 3.3 GPA. She belonged to the National Honor Society and took AP classes. She has volunteered in the women's ministry leadership and is coach of the praise dance team. She has her CPR certificate and is a medical assistant. She will be attending Delaware State University to study nursing. Her goal is to be a neonatal nurse practitioner.
AARP meets at noon the third Monday of each month September through June at the Georgetown CHEER Center off Route 9. The next meeting is at noon, Monday, Nov. 2. For more information or to make a reservation, call Anita at 302-856-6215.
