Action needed to save Sussex’s trees

March 3, 2023

After reading several letters in your paper the last several months, I realize that other individuals are aware of a growing problem in our area.

The clear-cutting of acres and acres of trees to make it easier and less expensive for developers to include more homes in the planned development is a huge concern. This issue is long overdue and Sussex County Council needs to act upon a resolution now. We cannot afford to keep losing this number of trees if we want to maintain the environment and sustain wildlife.

And while we are talking about trees, do I dare ask what is going to to happen to those two beautiful evergreens that are in the middle of the Savannah Road, Wescoats Road, Clay Road and Marsh Road intersection at the traffic light?

Every day I travel on Freeman Highway and watch land being prepared for the new housing development. There is a large, majestic circle of trees in the middle of the land. It is my hope that that circle of trees will still be standing years from now.

Development is inevitable, but let’s put some thought and consideration into future planning.
