As part of a corporation-wide restructuring plan, the Starbucks in downtown Rehoboth Beach has closed.

The larger Starbucks corporation announced Sept. 25 it was closing about 1% of its stores and laying off nearly 1,000 employees. The local coffee shop closed a couple of days later.

A sign hanging in the window reads, “We made the incredibly difficult decision to close this Starbucks location. We know this may be hard to hear – because this isn’t just any store. It’s your coffeehouse, a place woven into your daily rhythm, where memories were made, and where meaningful connections with our partners grew over the years. We’re deeply grateful for the community that’s been built here.”

The shop was located at the intersection of Lake Avenue, Rehoboth Avenue and Fourth Street, on the first floor of The Shops at The Pearl. It opened in April 2008.

Three local Starbucks remain – one in Acme, another just south of Airport Road off Route 1 outside Rehoboth and a new location just north of Postal Lane outside Lewes.
