The PGA Tour golf tournament being played this week is being held at the Philadelphia Cricket Club in Flourtown, Pa. Apparently, this is oldest private country club in the United States, and they are playing a PGA Tour event there for the first time. My grandparents played in tennis matches there when they were teenagers! The reason the championship is being played at the Cricket Club this year is because the Quail Hollow Club, the usual site for this event, is hosting the PGA Championship next week. That makes it even more fun to watch for me and my parents.
I am currently watching the tournament on TV, and I have been surprised about some of the large elevation changes on some of the holes. It makes you realize just how flat Delaware is. I will report who wins the tournament next week.
The Phillies are continuing to play pretty well on the current road trip. They’re playing the Tampa Bay Rays and the Cleveland Guardians. Even though the Phillies are playing better, they’re still two games behind the New York Mets for first place. The Mets have gotten off to a great 24-14 start this season. I still think the Atlanta Braves will be in the division race as well. It has been interesting watching the first two games against the Rays because the Phillies are playing them in the New York Yankees’ Grapefruit League spring training stadium because of last year’s hurricane that hit Tampa so hard. The facility can only fit 11,000 fans, which means the fans are a lot closer to the players than usual. The last game against the Guardians will be on Sunday Night Baseball this week on ESPN.
Good news for Eagles fans. Dallas Goedert is staying with the Eagles on a one-year contract to play tight end. For most of this off season, it was assumed he was not going to be back with the team for salary cap reasons. Now the Birds have 10 of their 11 offensive starters back from the Super Bowl team, which is pretty cool.
Next week, the NFL schedule will be released. The Eagles will probably play in the first game of the season in the second week of September, a recent tradition for the Super Bowl champion, and the game will probably be at home as well. We will see.
