Alliance celebrates Martin Luther King Jr.

January 22, 2026

The Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice held its Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration Jan. 16 at Epworth United Methodist Church in Rehoboth Beach.

The third annual celebration, themed Supporting Our Youth, Defending Our History, combined student performances and tributes to historical figures in the Civil Rights movement.

Keynote speaker Paul Williams, a local television personality, advocated for remembering the past while supporting youth in the future. His speech reminded the audience of the biblical story of Elisha who was known as a prophet and miracle worker. He ended with the contemporary theme of Do Something, meaning it isn’t necessary to do big things, because little things can also make a difference.

Also participating were the drumline of Cape Henlopen High School, Alliance Singers of CAMP Rehoboth Chorus, Milford High School choir, Singing and Praying Bands of Maryland and Delaware, Laurel Councilwoman RogJenea Fisher, the Rev. John Moore, youth speakers Ayreonna Hudson and Chris Miller, and remarks by Charlotte King, founder and board chair of SDARJ.
