Alliance for racial justice honors Beacon Middle School students

January 6, 2025

The Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice recently honored Beacon Middle School students Ke’Jon Bland and Colton Wilson for their leadership, effort and excellence.

According to his teachers, Ke’Jon serves as a model student to his peers. He is motivated to do well in school and demonstrates exemplary behavior in the classroom. Ke’Jon’s peers look up to him as a positive leader who is always willing to volunteer, and share his thoughts and opinions in class. His enthusiasm is contagious in both academic and athletic activities. Ke’Jon truly exemplifies what it means to be a young leader in his school community.

Colton is a multi-sport athlete who plays football, basketball and baseball. Colton’s teachers said he also excels in the classroom, putting together a first-quarter report card with all As and Bs. Beyond his accomplishments on the ball field and in the classroom, Colton’s teachers said he is an outstanding young man in the school and community. Courteous and considerate to both students and staff, Colton is willing to offer a helping hand to all.

Ke’Jon and Colton were honored in a ceremony held at the school, and each received a $20 gift card to Browseabout Books in Rehoboth from SDARJ.

SDARJ initiated the African American Achievement Award to recognize students who represent the ideals of leadership, improvement, effort and excellence in their schools. Students from each school in the Cape Henlopen and Indian River school districts are recognized throughout the academic year. SDARJ is a nonpartisan organization that educates, informs, and advocates for racial justice, equality and fair opportunity. For more information, go to sdarj.org
