American Agri-Women commend agriculture resiliency through COVID-19

May 19, 2020

American Agri-Women President Karolyn Zurn applauds farmers and ranchers, especially AAW members and their families, for their resiliency during this unexpected pandemic.

The country is going through some very trying times due to the coronavirus. Even though the economic hardships of the situation have hit many aspects of agriculture hard, citizens may rest assured that American farmers and ranchers are still working diligently. Whether they are dairy or grain farmers, livestock ranchers, hog producers, or fruits and vegetable growers, all are continually striving and bringing forth safe, healthy products for American consumers. After all, these are the same products they feed their own families.

American beef, pork, poultry, grain, and dairy farmers supply families access to meals with high sources of protein. This is in addition to the many vitamins, minerals, and nutrients necessary for balanced diets, proper nutrition, and the growth of children and maintenance of adults. Fresh vegetables, fruits and nuts provide fiber, antioxidants, healthy fats, and improve brain function in all ages.

The U.S. food supply is not something to take lightly, nor are the families that produce it. Each day they are working for their families and the nation to make sure everyone has the options to meet the dietary needs required to be healthy. Understanding where and how food is produced and processed, and makes its way to the consumer is more important now than ever before.
