Man faces DUI, weapon charge following Dewey Beach traffic stop
A Camden man faces charges for driving under the influence and a weapon offense following an Aug. 2 traffic stop in Dewey Beach.
Police pulled over Gregg E. Daddio, 46, after they say he failed to signal properly while turning, and the officer smelled alcohol and detected signs of impairment when he approached the vehicle, police said.
During the encounter, police said, Daddio disclosed there was a firearm inside the vehicle but admitted he did not possess a valid concealed carry permit. The firearm – a black Glock 29 10mm pistol – was located concealed between the driver’s seat and the center console. The weapon was determined to be readily accessible to the operator and was secured by officers on the scene, police said.
Daddio refused to complete field sobriety testing, police said, and he was placed under arrest for driving under the influence. A preliminary breath test administered later indicated a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit. Daddio was transported to the Dewey Beach Police Department for processing and arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 2. He was charged with felony carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of a firearm while under the influence, driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and drugs, failure to signal continuously prior to turning, and improper turn. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on an intoxication hold.
