Sussex County AmVets Post 2 in Long Neck held a Memorial Day ceremony May 25 to honor fellow soldiers.
Much of the ceremony was held virtually, with remarks presented by Post Commander Tom Jones, who spoke of the common bond between soldiers and those on the front lines battling the COVID-19 pandemic.
“They are men and women who have sacrificed their lives so others could live,” Jones said. “They are both elite and ordinary. They are elite in the sense of character. Giving your life so others could live is the ultimate definition of selfless.”
Delaware District II Commander David Heffline was also on hand to read a poem in honor of military veterans, while Jones read the benediction before “Taps” was played as officers from the post saluted the flag.
