Ann Jeanette Hudson, former teacher’s aide

December 7, 2018

Ann Jeanette Hudson, affectionately called Mom Mom and Aunt Ann by many, passed peacefully at home Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2018.

Ann was born Sept. 4, 1934, to the late John and Mary Spicer.  She graduated from Georgetown High School in 1952, where she played field hockey, basketball and softball.  That same year, she married the love of her life, Sam Hudson.  Ann and Sam were married for 52 years until Sam’s death in 2004.  Their greatest joy was spending time with their family. They were devoted to their daughters, Karen Sue and Stephanie, and spent countless hours cheering on their grandchildren at soccer games, wrestling matches, dance recitals, plays and any other events where they could show their support. Ann was always the first person to start a standing ovation. Their home was constantly filled with family and friends, often gathered around the dining room table enjoying Ann’s cooking.

Ann worked as a teacher’s aide at East Millsboro Elementary School for 27 years, where she treated every single student as if he or she were her own child or grandchild. The number of teeth she pulled, hugs she gave, and lives she touched are countless.

She is survived by two daughters, Karen Sue Bastianelli and her husband Steve of Bear, and Stephanie Hughes and her husband R.L. of Millsboro; grandchildren Tyler Bastianelli (Cristina), Megan Sungail (Cameron), Julie and Katie Hughes; and great-grandson Rowan Sungail.  She is also survived by her sister Pat Gordon (Harry); and two sisters-in-law Phyllis Anne Hudson, and Lois White (Bob); as well as many special nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Sam; brothers Alton Spicer, Richard Spicer, and Johnny Spicer; and a sister, Helen Mumford.

Ann was a lifelong member of Hickory Hill United Methodist Church.  The family suggests donations to the church c/o Roy Rogers, 28209 Walt Carmean Lane, Millsboro, DE or Vitas Hospice, 30265 Commerce Dr., Suite 202, Millsboro, DE, which provided great comfort during a difficult time.  The family would also like to thank her caregiver Carol Sue Bawel, who provided great friendship and assistance during the last years of her life.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, Dec. 9 at 1:30 p.m. at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro where family and friends may visit after 11:30 a.m.  Interment will be in the Millsboro Cemetery.
