April Robbins, Nanticoke tribe member
April “Morning Star” Robbins was called home Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2022, to be with the Creator/Lord. She passed peacefully at home with her family at the age of 70. She was born in Dover and grew up in Wilmington. She spent most of her summers in Millsboro living along the river, and enjoyed crabbing off the pier, swimming and attending shows at Rosedale Beach.
April graduated from Wilmington High School in 1970 and went on for a bachelor of arts degree in early childhood education from Delaware State University in 1974. She worked as a daycare teacher for Head Start for several years before working as a credit analyst at JP Morgan Chase Bank, where she retired in 2018 after 30-plus years. She was known for her tough leadership style but many of her colleagues and staff became lifelong friends that she was still in contact with in the weeks leading up to her passing.
She adored her family and her grandchildren. They were the center of her world. Her hobbies included reading and playing games on her tablet. She also was in a bowling league for many years. She especially loved gathering for crab feasts with family and friends.
She was a proud member of Nanticoke Indian Tribe of Delaware and avidly enjoyed attending the annual Powwow. She worked at the T-shirt booth for many years.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Ida Catherine Robbins (Norwood); her father, William Benjamin Robbins; her sisters, Shirley (Robbins) Mayfield and Helena (Coursey) Spanish; her brother, Herman Thomas Robbins; and her niece, Denise Spanish.
April leaves behind to cherish her memories, her devoted daughter, Reiesha Dana (Robbins) Graham; loving son-in-law, William Graham IV; her five grandchildren, Aiyana, Noah, Nayeli, Hailey and William V; her goddaughter, Crystal Mayfield; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 24, at Harmony United Methodist Church, 27270 John J. Williams Hwy., Millsboro. A viewing will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Interment will be at Israel United Methodist Church, 20230 Plantation Road, Lewes.
