Artisans Fair May 23 supports arts and college scholarships
The annual Artisans Fair sponsored by South Coastal AARP Chapter 5226 will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, May 23, at Lord Baltimore Elementary School on Route 26 in Ocean View.
The fair highlights works by regional artists and has been named among the Top 10 craft shows in Delaware. It features exquisite pottery, fine arts, jewelry, ceramics, wood, metalwork, photography, textiles, home décor and glass. Event proceeds support college scholarships for local students, organized by the South Coastal AARP Scholarship Committee.
“This show is an exciting opening to the summer season for those who like to see the best in the creative arts,” said Ida Crist, Artisans Fair chair. “Exhibitors include many local artists as well as those who come from farther away in the Mid-Atlantic region. We seek artists in a wide variety of media so we can appeal to a wide audience.”
The show also includes a farmers market; sales of baked goods, some made by local AARP chapter members; an Artisans Auction on items donated by the artisans; a 50-50 cash raffle; and a raffle for a golf package from Cripple Creek Golf and Country Club. Muzicopia, a local multi-instrumental band, will play festive music outdoors during the morning hours.
A van will provide transportation from and to offsite overflow parking lots located at Mariners Global Methodist Church on Central Avenue and Miken Builders on Cedar Drive, both in Ocean View. Cucina Veloce Food Truck will offer fresh pasta, salads, sandwiches and beverages.
Each year, South Coastal DE AARP gives two scholarships to Indian River High School students and four scholarships to adult students attending Delaware Technical Community College, which the Artisans Fair helps fund.
Admission to the fair and parking are free. For more information, contact aarp.artisans.fair@gmail.com or visit southcoastalaarp.org.
