Athletes Against Alzheimer’s 5K set Aug. 4

July 22, 2019

The 5th Annual Athletes Against Alzheimer’s 5K run/walk, presented by Loftus Wealth Strategies, will be held Sunday, Aug. 4, to benefit the local work of the Alzheimer's Association Delaware Valley Chapter. Michael Loftus of Loftus Wealth Strategies, a wealth management and financial planning business in Ocean View, founded the event.

According to the Alzheimer’s Association website, Alzheimer’s is a type of dementia that causes problems with memory, thinking and behavior; the life-interfering symptoms worsen over time and there is no cure.

“We are grateful to everyone who has helped establish this race since its inception and so happy to be celebrating our fifth anniversary this summer. Our goal is to raise $25,000 this year, $5,000 more than last year in honor of the fifth year. If we are successful, we will have raised nearly $150,000 in five years. Our race funds the treatment, research and support for those affected by Alzheimer’s and their caregivers,” said Loftus. “I challenge runners, sponsors, volunteers, residents and visitors to help us meet or beat our ambitious goal. Registration for runners, teams of runners, volunteers and sponsors is open, and together, we will support the Alzheimer’s Association and end the vicious disease.”

Loftus added, “Our sponsors are important partners in our fight against Alzheimer’s. Generous support from local businesses moves the needle toward our goal. I want to thank our past and current sponsors, and encourage other businesses to join forces with us to make our race stronger.”

Families and businesses can rally together to form fundraising teams to raise money. A new feature this year is that the top fundraiser will be honored with the No. 1 race bib. Cash donations are fully tax-deductible.
