The Dewey Post proprietors Ashley and Lo Skarda have expanded their breakfast offerings in a new venture that also honors the former owner of Baked Coffee Bar, Pam Minhas.

In late summer 2022, the Skardas opened The Dewey Post in the southern end of town, offering full breakfasts, coffees and cocktails, and evening ice cream and milkshakes.

In the early summer of 2023, Minhas contacted the Skardas to ask if they could consult with her on her menu in hopes her health would improve, Ashley said.

“We would do the coffee, and they would do the baked goods,” she said.

It was too much for the Skardas to handle at the time, Ashley said; she was eight months pregnant and The Dewey Post was about to enter its first full summer season. In September 2023, Minhas died after a difficult battle with progressive multiple sclerosis. She had owned Baked for nine years.

“Her family contacted us and said her wish was for us to take over the business,” Ashley said. “We kept the name Baked as an homage.”

To honor Minhas’ memory, the Skardas organized an April 20 walk that began at Baked and culminated with a toast in her honor at The Lighthouse. Walkers raised $2,500 for the National MS Society.

“Baked was more than just her business, it was her passion and love story,” Ashley said. “We want to make it a yearly event on April 20 as a nod to the Baked name.”

The Skardas recently completed an interior facelift of the restaurant, bringing the warm colors and coordinated branding of The Dewey Post into the space.

The restaurant’s ocean block location is perfect for those who want to fill the cooler before hitting the beach, Ashley said.

Baked by The Dewey Post offers a small breakfast menu with sandwiches, grab-and-go cold salads and wraps, smoothies and juices, and pastries crafted by three different in-house bakers. Frozen-scoop cheesecake will likely be available on weekends only, Lo said.

Patrons may choose among sweets from Nicole Viscount’s Sugar High – Sweets by Nicole, Nicol DiMarzio’s Mom Mom’s Cheesecakes and Kara Murphy’s Kara’s Sugar Kitchen, and plants and floral designs by Laura Vanvorst’s Fifth Street Florals, which Ashley describes as coastal beachy arrangements.

“We sell out her bouquets every time,” Ashley said.

Since Dewey has become a wedding destination, Ashley said Baked by The Dewey Post also offers a catering menu for wedding planners, who can also order cakes and floral designs.

Baked by The Dewey Post is located at 2000 Coastal Hwy. and will be open weekends until late May, when hours will be 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. seven days a week. Follow them on Facebook and Instagram.
