Gavin Hudson
This Sussex Tech junior headed up to Frawley Stadium May 30 and pitched perfectly through four innings in the Ravens' semifinal against Caesar Rodney. He would eventually surrender one run on three hits, but Hudson pitched all seven innings, striking out 11 while walking none. Despite the loss, Hudson said it felt amazing to be in control, and it's every pitcher's dream to dominate a lineup like that. His main strikeout pitch was a slider, which has been his go-to his entire career. Hudson mixed up his pitches well, catching the Riders off-balance by firing his fastball after a couple of sliders. The first-team all-state designated hitter said the key to the Ravens’ deep run was the strong bond the players shared. Hudson came up through Nanticoke Little League, playing since he was 5 years old. In addition to playing for Tech, he is on the Elkton, Md.-based Five Star Prime Black travel team.
Jack Huss
This multifaceted Cape lacrosse player used his talents this season as a long-stick middie, close defender, face-off specialist and short-stick defensive middie. "Jack was a huge part of our team this year and was great to have around every day," said Cape lacrosse coach Geoff Shupard. "We will miss him next year. He was definitely one of our emotional leaders, and was good about holding himself and teammates accountable when needed." He recently played for the White squad in the Blue-White Senior Boys' Lacrosse All-Star Game. Jack also played on the Cape unified basketball team, where he was described as a friend to everyone. An honors student at Cape, he was the Class of 2024 president. At the 2024 commencement ceremony, he said, “So, to my fellow graduates, here's to our future. Let the good times roll.” He will be attending the University of Colorado this fall.
Lulu Rishko
The fluid druid of Cape athletics over the last four years recently graduated and was doubly honored by being named Cape Female Athlete of the Year and snagging state Player of the Year honors in girls’ lacrosse. Lulu is a three-sport athlete, having played field hockey, basketball and lacrosse. She was a major force on six state championship teams, three each in field hockey and lacrosse. Older sister Ella was also a three-sport athlete and was the 2022 Cape Female Athlete of the Year; the girls are first cousins to 2022 Cape Male Athlete of the Year Mikey Frederick. Lulu’s strength is athletic intelligence and Whisper Jet speed. She was able to go where the game took her in lacrosse, from the draw control and ground balls to scoring multiple goals against the best competition. Lulu was also first-team all-state in field hockey and a 2023 USA Lacrosse All-American. Future in flux, stay tuned.
Anna Sullivan
Anna was an integral part of the Blue squad’s victory in the annual USA Lacrosse Delaware Chapter Senior All-Star Game held June 11 at DE Turf, grabbing the draw in the waning seconds and making the assist on the winning goal. She was also a draw specialist for the state champion Cape team, where she won 75% of the draws she took this season. "Anna did a great job for us this season," said Cape coach Lindsey Underwood. "She was consistent on the draw and was able to place it wherever she wanted. She learned a few more draws this season and was able to change them on a whim. It really was great to see." She lent her water skills to the Cape swim team in the winter season, garnering first-team all-conference and honorable mention all-state. An honors student at Cape, she will attend Stetson University on a full scholarship this fall.
