Kailey McMahon
Kailey is cut from the same cloth as Cape’s fastest people who stealthily move along the forward line like a whisper jet taxiing for takeoff. “Last year as a freshman, I was working my way up trying to earn a spot. This year, I work to hold my spot. Everybody on this team can play,” Kailey said. Coach Kate Austin said: “Her athleticism and competitiveness make her a fun player to watch. She’s a workhorse on the forward line and has a knack for the goal. She’s fearless in the scoring circle, and has spent a lot of time working on her deflecting skills to be more of a threat on penalty corners and in the field of play.” Kailey is the Academy Challenge, AP and honors kid who plays field hockey in the fall and soccer in the spring. KMac has two goals over the first three games.
Austin Taylor
A goalkeeper on the Sussex Academy soccer team, this senior recently led the Seahawks to a 3-2 victory over Salesianum School, making nine saves against the 22-time Delaware state champions. "Austin is an outstanding young man with tremendous character," said Seahawks coach RJ Dina. "His ability to compete, challenge others and be coached separates him from the rest. We are incredibly blessed to have him as the leader in the back this year." Aside from soccer, Austin runs track and field, excelling in the long jump and triple jump. He recently competed in the High School Track and Field Nationals. In his spare time away from soccer, he likes to hang out with his friends and family, and enjoys taking in a round of golf.
Makenzie Todd
Makenzie spent her freshman year at Polytech then moved into the Cape district last season when the family moved to Lewes. “Last year, I played JV field hockey and was part of the varsity rotation in lacrosse,” Makenzie said. “Last year, both teams won state championships. Being at Cape is awesome.” Coach Kate Austin said: “Makenzie had a great preseason and has shown her versatility to play forward or in the midfield line. Her speed with the ball and vision have helped the team see success so far this season. Her skills under pressure are greatly improved, and she has a solid shot in the circle.” Makenzie is an honors and AP student. She has started a couple games this season and is part of the mixture on a deeply talented team.
Austin Tyndall
Cape soccer coach Patrick Kilby describes Austin as a dangerous player for his opponents. "He is a goal-scoring threat every time he touches the ball in the offensive third. He's got confidence and an ability to match it. We can give him the leniency and the freedom to create and do his scoring thing." A junior honors student at Cape, he’s also the place kicker for the football team. A scoring machine this season, he delivered five extra points after touchdowns against William Penn Sept. 5, then scored four goals for the soccer squad the next morning against the Odessa High Ducks. During the summer months, he is a lifeguard for the Delaware State Parks. When not on the turf, he can be found fishing, going to the beach or hanging out with friends.
