Backyard Jams and Jellies thanks the community

August 31, 2020

Many of you in the community, know me. My name is Krista Scudlark and I have owned a small business for the last 15 years. My business is Backyard Jams and Jellies. I sell at local farmers markets, and have my products in a number of local bakeries, gourmet shops, specialty stores and farm stands. For the past few months I have had problems getting sugar and pectin. Now, it has become almost impossible to find half-pint jelly jars (at a reasonable price). My usual commercial supplier has been out of jars for the last three weeks. (We typically order over 100 cases of jelly jars every other week.)

I posted my dilemma on the Backyard Jams and Jellies Facebook page, and was amazed to see the community rally around my small business. Friends, neighbors, customers and people I don’t even know, have dropped off boxes of jars on my front porch. I have also received jars from customers, at the Historic Lewes Farmers Market and the Rehoboth Beach Farmers Market. There have been a few members of the community who have seen jars in a store (or online), and bought them for me. None of these people would take money for the jars that they bought! I have received texts, calls, and emails, with information on where to find jars. This caring and generosity has amazed me. I think that the pandemic has brought out the best in our community. Thank you all, for keeping Backyard Jams and Jellies in business. Stay safe, healthy, and happy.
