Barbara ‘Barb’ McCray, Dirty Harry’s retiree

Barbara “Barb” Francis McCray, 75, passed away Friday, Aug. 30, 2019, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford. She was born to the late Virgil D. McCray Sr. and Elizabeth McCray June 25, 1945, in Frankford. 

Barbara was educated at the William C. Jason School in Georgetown.  She worked in the poultry industry, and then transitioned into restaurant work, and retired from Dirty Harry’s in Fenwick Island in 2018.

Barbara enjoyed spending time at the casino, and more importantly, the tea where conversation revolved around finding out what is going on, and her favorite saying: “Who y’all talkin’ about” or “Who, who?” 

Barbara was preceded by her brothers: Virgil McCray Jr., Albert (Mary Lou) McCray, and Allen McCray; a brother-in-law: Marvin Hall; and her sister: Hazel McCray.  

Barbara is survived by her only child: Reuben (Georgette) McCray of Georgetown.  Also surviving are two brothers: Charles (Edna) McCray and Alfred (Sherridia) McCray, both of Frankford; and a sister: Jenny Hall of Millsboro; one sister-in-law: Patricia McCray of Millsboro; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members, and many friends.

A funeral service,and Celebration of Her Life will be held Saturday, Sept. 7, at noon, at St. John 2nd Baptist Church, Mount Joy Road, Millsboro.  Friends may call one hour prior starting at 11 a.m., for viewing and visitation. Bishop Roland Mifflin will officiate. Interment follows at the Antioch AME Church Cemetery in Frankford.
