Barbara Fisher Austin, lived a full life

Barbara (Barbette) Elizabeth Fisher Austin, 94, passed away Friday, May 10, 2019, at home in Carolina Shores, N.C., where she lived for the past 13 years.  

Barbette was the oldest of three children born to Henry and Barbara Fisher in Wilmington in 1924.  Her early years were spent in Wilmington where she graduated from Wilmington High School and married Alvin Lawrence, who passed away in 1945.  She married James B. Austin before moving to Lewes and raising her three daughters.  

Barbette lived a full life.  She was a hairdresser and avid reader who enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing golf, travelling, singing with the Sweet Adelines Group, choir and playing bridge.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, James Austin, and brother, Anthony Fisher.  She is survived by her sister, Theresa Sewell; daughters Barbara and husband Jack Shore of Little River, S.C., Linda and husband Rick Till of Carolina Shores, and Noreen and Robert Shaw of New Braunfels, Texas; grandchildren Chuck Dougherty, Julia Bates, Suzanne Jutras, Mary Carter, Jeff Douty, Jill West and Erin Till; 17 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be made to: Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 955 Mercy Lane SE, Bolivia, NC 28422, or Benedictine School, 14299 Benedictine Lane, Ridgely, MD 21660. Services to be held in Lewes in October are pending.
