Postponed: Baritone Andrew Garland and pianist Warren Jones to be rescheduled

Coastal Concerts recital at Bethel United Methodist Church in Lewes
March 12, 2020

In an abundance of caution and with guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and state and local health departments, Coastal Concerts has postponed its performance of rising star baritone Andrew Garland and acclaimed piano accompanist Warren Jones in recital in the fellowship hall of Bethel United Methodist Church, Fourth and Market streets, Lewes.

Originally scheduled for Saturday, March 14, the event will be rescheduled at a later date.

Coastal Concerts will host a performance by sing star baritone Andrew Garland and acclaimed piano accompanist Warren Jones in recital in the fellowship hall of Bethel United Methodist Church, Fourth and Market streets, Lewes.

Garland is widely recognized as a leader in recital work with dozens of performances around the country, including Carnegie Hall with Warren Jones, and programs of modern American songs throughout the United States and in Canada. He brings his highly communicative style to the concert stage with orchestras including Atlanta Symphony and Boston Baroque, and with vocal groups including Washington Master Chorale at the Kennedy Center and National Chorale at Lincoln Center.

Garland also has been sought after for operatic engagements, such as the world premiere of William Bolcom’s “Dinner at Eight” with the Minnesota Opera, the world premiere of Gabriela Lena Frank’s “The Conquest Requiem” with the Houston Symphony, and as Prior Walter in Tony Kushner’s “Angels in America” with the New York City Opera.

His latest solo CD, “American Portraits,” with Donna Loewy on piano, went to No. 1 on Amazon classical. In addition to sustaining a busy performance schedule, Garland recently joined the voice faculty at The University of Colorado-Boulder.

Jones enjoys a notably eclectic career that has taken him to nearly every corner of the musical world. In 2010,  Jones was named Collaborative Pianist of the Year by Musical America, validating his reputation as one of the world’s premier piano accompanists. He performs with many of today’s best-known artists, including Stephanie Blythe, Denyce Graves, and Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, and is principal pianist for the California-based chamber music group Camerata Pacifica. In the past, he has partnered with such performers as Marilyn Horne, Håkan Hagegård, Kathleen Battle, Samuel Ramey, Barbara Bonney and Thomas Hampson. For 10 years he was assistant conductor at the Metropolitan Opera.

He performed in the White House for state dinners honoring leaders of Canada, Russia and Italy, and performed three times for the justices of the United States Supreme Court with musical afternoons in the court’s East Conference Room. Jones is a longtime member of the faculty of the Manhattan School of Music and leads a unique graduate degree program in collaborative piano. In 2011, he received the Achievement Award from the Music Teachers National Association of America, its highest honor.
