The Beacon Middle School volleyball team outlasted Mariner in an exciting slugfest 25-23, 25-14 at the Cape Henlopen High School gymnasium Oct. 24. Beacon’s B team also garnered a 2-0 victory.
“I was really proud of the way we played tonight,” said Mariner head coach Alison Herman. “They really played well against a strong Beacon team.”
“I thought my team kept their composure playing in a big gym at Cape,” said Beacon head coach Vince Failla. “I loved how they moved as a unit. These girls really understand the game and have come together as a unit. I’m proud of them.”
Beacon ends their season at 6-4 while the Vikings of Mariner finished at 4-7.
Dan has worked for the Cape Gazette for more than 30 years as a photographer and reporter, covering high school sports and happenings around eastern Sussex County. He won a photography award from the National Newspaper Association, and numerous awards from the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association. A Delaware native, Dan graduated from Cape in 1972 and returned as a teacher and coach in the 1980s. He retired from the classroom in 2016. He was inducted into Cape High’s Legends Stadium in 2016. In his spare time, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, grandchildren and dogs.
