Beebe to offer lung cancer screenings Nov. 11 at two locations
As part of National Lung Cancer Screening Day, Beebe Healthcare will offer special appointments for lung cancer screenings Saturday, Nov. 11, at two locations, the Rehoboth Health Campus and Millville Health Center.
Thoracic surgeon Marissa Amaral, MD, will be on-site to meet with those who are screened in Rehoboth. Robin Weems, PA-C, Beebe’s Pulmonary Nodule Program coordinator, will be available in Millville.
A physician referral is required for an individual to be screened. Patients may be eligible if they are between the ages of 50 and 80, currently smoking or a previous smoker who quit within the past 15 years, or someone with at least a 20 pack-year history.
Smoking-year history is calculated based on the number of cigarettes smoked per day, multiplied by the number of years of smoking. For example, if someone smoked two packs of cigarettes per day for 10 years, they would have a 20 pack-year history.
Anyone who is eligible or has an eligible loved one and would like to schedule an appointment should contact their primary care physician and request a referral. With a referral, patients can call 302-645-3278 to schedule the lung cancer screening appointment for Nov. 11. Callers should mention they want to be screened as part of this event.
Lung cancer is one of the deadliest forms of cancer and is expected to claim the lives of 127,000 Americans this year. Screening leads to early detection, and early detection leads to increased survival rates.
