Berry open to funding for homeschoolers

November 21, 2025

Homeschooling in Delaware is growing at a tremendous rate, and the growth of Delaware homeschoolers is one of the highest in the nation at 29%. I met with legislators from both parties last year to discuss the fact that Delaware homeschoolers deserve state funding – Homeschooling families deserve state funding.

As a follow-up, I recently met with Alonna Berry, newly elected state representative of District 20 in the Milton area, to further elaborate on these issues, as Sussex County has a large group of homeschoolers. I gave her data in support of homeschooler needs. Rep. Berry, who comes from a proud line of Delaware educators, welcomed the idea and will be exploring options to see what best can be done to help homeschoolers get some funding. She will be discussing these and related issues with her legislative colleagues to address them in a bipartisan manner.

I am appreciative of Rep. Berry’s efforts, as this would be a first-of-its-kind initiative, and I am hopeful homeschoolers will finally get the benefit they deserve not only in Sussex County but also the entire state of Delaware.
