Bertha Van Vlierden Lasher, served family, community
Bertha Van Vlierden Lasher, 90, passed away peacefully, in Lutz, Fla., Friday, May 5, 2017, surrounded by her daughters, after a full and fruitful life.
She was born in Saugerties, N.Y. to the late Leroy and Helen Luhrs Van Vlierden. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Hiram Nelson Lasher, 2012; a son, Steven Hiram Lasher, 1979; and two sisters, Margaret "Peg" V. Swartz, 2001; and Marie V. Martin, 2015.
Except for her early years in Saugerties and her later years in Lutz, Bertha lived her entire adult life in Millsboro. She spent her life in service to her family and her community, our environment and our world.
Bertha is survived by a twin sister, Betty V. Decker, still in Saugerties; and six children, three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Her children are Douglas Nelson and Carolyn Lasher, Decatur, Ala., Sandra L. and William Gordon, Big Pine Key, Fla., Hiram Dennis Lasher, Millsboro, Denise Helen Lasher and Sigmund Paczkowski, Lutz, Michael Clark Lasher, Millsboro, and Michele Betty Lasher, Dagsboro. Bertha's grandchildren are Sean David and Lisa Lasher, Georgetown, Elizabeth Lasher Wehnes, Lutz, and Sarah Elizabeth Lasher, Milford. Her one great-grandchild is Hiram Sean Lasher, Georgetown.
Friends of Bertha's are invited to join the family for a graveside service, Monday, June 12, 3 p.m., at the Millsboro Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the Del-Mar-Va Council, Boy Scouts of America, Henson Scout Reservation, 5700 Nanticoke Road, Rhodesdale, MD, earmarked for the Lasher Activities Building.
