President Joe Biden and first lady Dr. Jill Biden spent time at their North Shores home over the weekend of Jan. 19-22. It was their first visit in 2024.

Like most people in the Cape Region, the presidential couple didn’t do too much in the cold that blanketed the area. They arrived by motorcade Friday evening just as the snow that canceled school across the state was ending. On Saturday, the president attended mass at St. Edmond Catholic Church. On Sunday, the Bidens ate breakfast at Egg on Rehoboth Avenue in the morning and then attended the visitation for Theodore “Ted” Blunt, former Wilmington City Council president and father of Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester, in the afternoon. It was the second time in six months the Bidens dined at Egg.

Unlike most people in the Cape Region, the Bidens didn’t make the 95-mile drive up Route 1 to the Congo Legacy Center in Wilmington where the visitation was taking place – they took Marine One from the Gordons Pond parking area around the corner from their house.

Following a brief visit to their home in Wilmington after going to the visitation, the Bidens returned to North Shores. They went back to Washington, D.C., the morning of Monday, Jan. 22.
