Bike path safety meeting July 9 in Lewes

July 8, 2019

Sen. Ernie Lopez, R-Lewes, will host a bike path safety meeting at 6 p.m., Tuesday, July 9, at the Lewes Public Library. He will be joined by local law enforcement agencies and officials from the Department of Transportation for a discussion about bike path safety tips and the rules of the road.

Concerns about safety and etiquette have continued to grow since the second phase of the Lewes-Georgetown Trail was opened this spring. The latest leg extends the path from Gills Neck Road to Log Cabin Road, west of Sweetbriar Road. At the same time, the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control completed a new path along the old railroad tracks from Cape Henlopen State Park across Freeman Highway to the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal.

These two are additions to other existing paths such as the Gordons Pond Trail and the Junction and Breakwater Trail.
