Boxing at Fort Miles in the 1940s

September 27, 2022

Athletic activities relieved stress and kept the men of Fort Miles in shape. In addition to boxing, soldiers at the fort played baseball and basketball, and bowled. This image was made in the post gym after Fort Miles was established in the 1940s. Judging by the uniforms, it would seem to be taken during the late fall or possibly winter months. The gym was located opposite to the chapel, which is now used as a youth center. The gym is no longer standing. There are basketball courts and a children's playground in this area today.
