Brandywine Counseling and Community Services’ new Milford Treatment Center offers mental health and substance abuse treatment for people in Kent and Sussex counties. Individual, groups and family counseling are all available, as well as programs such as Rise Adolescence, DUI and drug-free programs.

At a June 21 ribbon cutting, Brandywine CEO Lynn Fahey, Ph.D, said that Brandywine is determined to fight addiction. “Addiction impacts all communities. That’s why Brandywine needs to be where the community needs us.” She went on to say, “We’re determined to fight addiction.”

Lt. Gov. Bethany Hall-Long said, “On average, we are losing a person a day in our state,” noting the need for expanding addiction services.

Delaware Rep. Charles Postles Jr., R-Milford, said addiction impacts children in schools and creates an unstable home life. “So much of drug overdoses are related to that [opioid epidemic]. Services offered here are going to address these things,” he said.

Milford Police Chief Kenneth Brown said, “It’s always good to have another avenue to deal with these folks than just enforcement. We want that.”

Called out of the crowd to speak, Dr. Sandra Gibney of Saint Francis Healthcare came right to the point. She said, “We’re in the fight.”

Brandywine Counseling also has two fully operational vehicles that travel across Kent and Sussex counties, providing substance abuse services as needed.
