Busy time of year

August 12, 2022

The Philadelphia Phillies have continued to play really well over the past month or so, but this next 10 days will be important. They will be playing the first place New York Mets seven times. In order to make the playoffs, I think they have to win at least four of these games to stay in the second position for the wild card playoff spot in the National League. The whole team has been playing a bit over their heads in the past two weeks or so. They are definitely making it fun to watch Phillies baseball for the first time in a number of years.

In golf, the FedEx Cup playoffs have begun in Memphis, Tenn. There are 125 players in the field. At the end of the event, the field for the second round will be cut down to 70 players. Next week, and for the first time ever, a FedEx playoff tournament will be held in Delaware at Wilmington Country Club. It will be interesting to see how the course will hold up against the best players in the world. After the event is over, the top 30 players will advance to the Tour Championship in Atlanta at East Lake Golf Club.

In not very surprising news in the tennis world, Serena Williams has announced her pending retirement after the U.S. Open that is being held in three weeks. She is clearly one of the best women’s tennis players of all time. She holds 23 grand slam titles in her career. It would be somewhat surprising if she were to advance far enough to win this time, simply because she hasn’t played very well in the last two years. If you want to know more about the Williams sisters story, you should watch the movie King Richard. It is very good.
