Caesar Rodney SAR names scholarship and JROTC winners

The Caesar Rodney Chapter or the Sons of the American Revolution announced the winners of the Caesar Rodney Chapter Scholarship for 2021 are Emily M. Connor and Brynn Hovatter.

The scholarships were awarded based on academic achievement, leadership activities, community service, involvement in sports-related programs and/or other extracurricular activities. Scholarship applicants were also required to submit a 400- to 600-word essay on a topic of their choosing related to Delaware’s role in the American Revolution.

“The chapter received many impressive applications; Ms. Connor and Ms. Hovatter especially stood out and distinguished themselves in all areas of the evaluation criteria. The chapter is delighted to have them as the first recipients of our scholarship program established in 2020,” said Larry Josefowski, chapter president.

Connor is a graduate of Sussex Central High School who is now attending Delaware Technical Community College and majoring in elementary education. She is the daughter of Michael and Amy Connor of Georgetown.

Hovatter is a graduate of Sussex Technical High School who attends the University of Delaware, majoring in cognitive science, pre-speech language pathology. She is the daughter of Scott and Stephanie Hovatter of Millsboro.

Cadet Kyndall Wyngaard, winner of Delaware’s competition as JROTC Cadet of the Year, recently received a national award from the National Society of Sons of the American Revolution for placing second nationally against other states’ cadets. Wyngaard attends the First State Military Academy in Clayton. She was  awarded a scholarship and received a certificate of recognition for her achievements. She is the daughter of Todd and Kim Wyngaard of Middletown.
